Introduction to WaterWater is a broad topic that is covered in multiple grades. Water can be broken down into several concepts such as freezing and melting, the water cycle, and uses of water. In first grade, students will explore what freezing and melting are. In second grade, students explore the water cycle. The water cycle is a continuous cycle of water through evaporation and condensation. In third grade, students learn that water is a renewable resource that can be used to provide energy. All of these concepts are explored in this webpage. The three videos below will provide you with information about water. The first video discusses freezing and melting, the second video discusses the water cycle, and the third video discusses water as a renewable resource.

Words To Know
- Water Cycle: The continuous cycle through which water passes into the atmosphere as water vapor, precipitates to earth in liquid or solid form, and ultimately returns to the atmosphere through evaporation; the circulation of Earth's water.
- Atmosphere: The gaseous envelope surrounding the earth; the air.
- Condensation: The act or process of reducing a gas or vapor in the air to a liquid or solid form (precipitation); the process by which water vapor in the air is changed into liquid water.
- Evaporation: The process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or vapor. This can happen by the water turning into a vapor at the surface or by boiling.
- Freezing vs. Melting: Freezing is the process in which a substance changes from a liquid to a solid; approaching, at, or below the freezing point temperature. Melting on the other hand is the physical process of a substance changing from a solid to a liquid by the application of heat.
- Renewable Energy: An energy resource that is that is replenished within a short amount of time by natural processes such as water.
